The Story Behind Keep Your Fork There's Podcast

As long as I’ve had a daughter, I’ve wanted to share all the media I’ve loved with her. Sometimes, that meant exposing her to John Carpenter’s The Thing way too soon—something she has every right to complain about forever—but most of the time, it’s been an incredible gift. I get to rediscover what makes me me and see it all again through her eyes.

Stories are how we pass down who we are. The things we experience, watch, read, and play shape us. Sharing them is how we connect. My daughter’s perspective helps me see into the future, and mine helps her understand where we came from.

This podcast is our way of exploring the media that made us—the films, books, and games that fuel our obsessions, linger in our brains, and resurface in far too many conversations. Sometimes, they shaped us deeply. Sometimes, they were just on TV a lot.

So, join us as we dig into the media that warped our minds, brought out our ready opinions, and exposed our deep lack of any real scientific knowledge. Expect laughs, a lot of grasping for vocabulary, and the occasional moment of accidental wisdom. Oh, and swears. Sorry for the potty mouth. I don’t know when it set in like it did but here we are.

Meet Your Hosts

Valerie is a young lady living in NYC and studying journalism.

She cosplays when she has the time and money (not lately).

Her favorite media are books and videogames, but movies and podcasts are ok too.

She cannot have a conversation without bringing up her cool mom. So, she made a podcast with her cool mom.

Susan Godfrey is an animation production professional who is also a Mom. She lives in LA but all her major heart arteries are in Brooklyn with her number one gal Ms. Valerie.

She studied film 100 years ago but had opinions even before that.  She’s read a lot of books, played some games, has a lot of opinions about all of that too.  And where does one put opinions if not the internet.  Thanks for the outlet.  Hope you enjoy.
